OMG has (probably) the best (imo) private bit-torrent tracker finally been taken down for good?
A notice on the Demonoid homepage reads:
“The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.”
The CRIA, Canada’s answer to the RIAA, started to go after Demonoid earlier this year, but the site was able to get back online after a few days.
However, this time the Canadian anti-piracy group may have forced it off for good.
According to some reports, while the site is gone, the tracker appears to still be functioning and the downloading continues, however, upon testing at the time of writing this is proving not to be the case.
Rumors on the web and IRC seem to indicate a swift return, but they also suggested the same thing for the other recently ousted music oriented site ‘Oink’, and that has been shown not to be the case.
I hope that being the focus of CRIA will not put down what has proved to be an amazing community, even if the sharing aspect does not return, some form of resurrection of the community I’m sure would be welcome.
